What councils do

Councils provide a wide variety of services to their municipalities and enforce various federal, state and local laws for their communities.

These services include public health, traffic, parking and animal management.

Community infrastructure maintained by councils in Victoria is estimated to be valued at over $40 billion and includes roads, bridges, drains, town halls, libraries, recreation facilities, parks and gardens. Councils regularly review their activities to ensure they are providing best practice for their communities.
