Animal management requests range from lost, wandering or nuisance pets to barking dogs, animal welfare concerns, dog attacks, reports of dangerous or menacing dogs and reports of illegal pet breeding activities.

Out of 723 domestic animals collected by our Local Laws officers, 497 were reunited with their owners. Unclaimed animals are placed into the care of Victorian Animal Aid Trust and, if suitable rehomed through their pet adoption program. All animals reclaimed by their owners are required to be registered before release.

Through the dedicated work of Victorian Animal Aid Trust, 182 unclaimed animals (or 25% of animals collected) were successfully rehomed during the reporting period, in addition to 497 lost animals reunited with their owners

Wellington Shire Council Says...

Wellington Shire Council undertook 9 animal management prosecutions during 2019/20 for matters related to serious dog attacks, mainly dog vs dog or dog vs livestock and unregistered domestic animal businesses. All of them were successful. An additional five matters have been adjourned due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected that they will be heard early next year and will be included in the next reporting period statistics.
